I’ve vowed to start using “At the soonest” as much as possible…this is just one of those weird language things that doesn’t transate correctly…meaning it’s a literal translation from Italian that italians use…I’m not sure it’s technically wrong…it’s just uncommon.
A colleague told me she had a dream about me where I announced to the company that I was quitting my job…then everyone was talking amongst themselves how they wished they had known me better…Her commentary was that something happy was about to happen to me…My comment was that I will probably get cancer soon 😉
Nobody likes an optimist 🙂
” A man’s way is not in him, nor is it in one who walks to direct his steps.” the torah
I’ve not read the torah, but I guess I’m glad you are…it is the original communist handbook right 😉
I’m not sure agree with it tho…maybe I’m missing the point, but if a man’s way is not in him then what is? Is this implying that if you’re doing something against the Torah then you’re following not your own will, but that of someone else?
I’ve had pork and clams this week…it was cuz I wanted to…it wasn’t some vast right wing conspiracy…
feel free to enlighten me…
‘A man’s way’ means God’s intended life for that person. ‘not in him’ means the man does not know it. God who knows all things, knows it. ‘one who walks’ means a man who is following Gods intended life for him. ‘direct his steps’ means even the small events or decisions he should make are not known untill they are at hand. torah is what we call the Old Testament. Here is more from the torah. “severe discipline is for him who forsakes the way”
and also “though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.” I think they go together.
The same torah that allows slavery, treating women as property, bans pork and shellfish, encourages vegetarianism, polygamy etc etc
Some of those things are offensive to me. Those books are morally bankrupt and wrong. I’m embarassed that people still take some of that seriously…
I just realized I haven’t had clam chowder in a very very long time…I want some!
Slavery was common in ancient times. In ancient Israel it was like welfare today. Peaple who couldn’t otherwise survive became part of a succesful family. It was not like the US slavery that you are thinking of. God’s word provided rules for that facet of society. It was more like the servant relationship of 19th century England.
yes. indentured servitude…I believe Lincoln had a quote where he thought slavery and indentured servitude to be equally sinful.
So many ways to go with that…serfdom, child labour, meritocracy, class etc…
I guess that’s a legitimate libertarian position, but if one is more enlightened one would have to observe that being born into the “right” or “wrong” situation observes ones status in life…we can compare you and George W. Bush.
A better goal in society is that everyone is given the same opportunities regardless of class and then let meritocracy take over…Give all children the same quality education (instead of just the rich) and then turn them loose in a capitalist society and the unseen hand will take over. I think you would have gotten into Yale before W…
I interpret your position to indicate that a caste system is your gods will…I want no part of that!
French revolution and all…
