So as I was walking home from the pub tonight (it’s a really REALLY long walk) I see the kid that works (maybe he doesn’t work there, but he hands out there) at the Kebap shop near my flat. Seeing as I’m a regular there I give him a nod as I’m walking towards him.
He says ”who are you” (valid question I guess)
me: joe
Him: Who are you?
me: joe…like guiseppi
Him: Who are you?…come stai…
me: looks puzzled (cuz I just can’t switch between italian and english like I can switch between Deutsch and english)
Him: no l’italiano?
me: no
Him: who are you? (he’s looking embarrassed now)
me: mi chiamo???…Joe
Him: (giving up and looking embarrassed) hmmmmphh
me: (being confused)…ciao
I finish my really long walk home from the pub and realize when I’m in the elevator that he was trying to say ”how are you?”
Me: (in the elevator and now looking embarrassed) d’OH!!!!
I just remembered what come stai means 🙂 I’m an idiot…
Now I need to know what the rule is on showing your face around an establishment after you’ve embarrassed yourself – as in to avoid facing some kid…as in how many days do I have to wait until I can get a kebap again?
If I was a wise bloke I’d use that time to work on my l’Italiano 😉 ha!
